Cool Armor question.

Hi,

I currently have knight armor. Im thinking about getting the platemail armor from Granite Citadel. Well, its mainly for the look, but I also dont want to end up with something worse than what I have.

The new armor will be: Armor: 85+10AL vs. physical

And the current one: Armor: 80+10 vs. physical. Reduces damage from attacks.

Is the "Reduce damage from attacks" make a big difference? is the 5 difference in armor make also a big difference?

Thanks for any tips/advices/infos.

Actually, yes it can. It's over-all damage. I prefer full knights though. But hey, that's just me even though many people say that you just need one piece of it to work.

Here's how I view it:

If going PvE, and knowing going against a lot of ranged/ele attacks, go with platemail.

Knights: Good overall because of the absorption, most definitely would prefer it in PvP. It's pretty good for runs too if you feel like it.

Honestly, I say save up your money just in case any new armor comes up in Chapter 2. Don't know if you can transfer though.. but you can always buy it then. Unless you prefer instant gratification instead of holding.

Remember that you are not limited to a whole set. You can always have...er...one piece of armor from each set and look funny. It's always based on preference. I've seen a warrior with a 15k glad hauberk (chest), knights gloves, platemail helm, dragon waist thing, and ascalong boots.

OR you could have different sets for different reasons. I myself switch between 2 sets of armor, Gladiator's and Knights.

Right now the Damage Reduction effect from Knights or Ascalon armor is a global Effect. This means you only need 1 piece of it to get the full -2 damage reduction.

That 5 AL is 5 armor vs ALL attacks, thus will help defend you against everything whether it's physical or elemental damage.

Best armor is Gladiator's

Here's a quote by Ensign comparing the 2 armor's.. it might help clarify which is "best" ...

Which one is better depends on the average damage dealt with each armor-using hit. The larger the size of each hit, the better Platemail is. The break points where Platemail becomes better are at 35 damage elemental hits, 41 damage physical hits, 45 damage elemental hits when using a shield, and 54 damage physical hits while using a shield.

The more armor bonuses you stack, the better Knight's becomes.

In general Knights would perform better than Platemail against physical attackers, but worse against spellcasters. Again, assuming that the Knight's / Ascalon bonus was actually location specific.

Of course all of this is moot as long as Gladiator's Armor exists, as that set just steamrolls all of the other options. You could take off the +20 defense vs. Physical, and it'd still be the PvP armor of choice.

Peace,
-CxE

Not so sure about the PvP armor of choice though. But yes, because it adds energy it is very convienient. But I prefer to use it for farming. I obviously have my reasons for going against saying that it is universal, but that is, just me. So the whole GW community still are still two-sided, from what I see anyways.

Preference.

About the only reason I'd say it's the PvP armor of choice is because a lot of Paladin W/Mo's run around with it. I have yet to see any substantial movement here or anywhere for Knight's armor other than for looks. At the very least, Platemail's better for the slightly higher AL vs elemental. And there isn't a 15k Knight's yet anyway.

I'd suggest reading the thread that contained Ensign's post. It discusses the merits/demerits of both armor's in both PvP & PvE.

To be honest, in PvE Knights is probably better unless the critter's later on in the game are hitting for over 45-54 damage per hit. At least thats what I gather from Ensign's post..

Savio - did you read the post by Ensign I quoted? While he might have been referring to PvP, his numbers on the cut-off points for Platemail to be better than Knights is still valid in PvE - if monsters tend to do less than those cut-off's per hit then Knights > Platemail, but if they tend to do more then Platemail > Knights.

It really depends on where you are in the game and what damage the critters tend to do to you.. as well as what armor mods you have.

I'll say it again just so no one is confused. You only need one piece of knight's armor to get the global damage reduction bonus of -2. So wearing full knight's armor is just well... you get the point.

Best combination, hands down, for pvp, would be what every good player uses, and that is this:

+1 to weapon attribute helm
Gladiator's Hauberk
Gladiator's Leggings
Gladiator's Gaunts (OR stonefists if you're running hammer)
Knight's Boots

For pve, use whatever the hell you want. Although the above combination remains the best.

Agreed, that's exactly what I have. Originally, when I didn't know it was global, I had the ascalon hauberk, so when I recently changed to 15k I used that set up, and I love it. Gives me that extra 5 or more energy for when I really need it.

Yeah, I read it a long time ago, it actually was to a discussion on whether Platemail or Knight's would be better, had Knight's worked the way it was intended to (i.e. locational not global.) As it is, Knight's is crap for functionality but gets points for not being a man-bra. Platemail is better, and Glad's is the best if you care about stats at all.

Gotta love those man-bra's!

You know, I feel like a complete dill I forgot that the discussion was comparing the armor's assuming Knights was localized. Oh wells, just ignore my stupidity

but in PvE.. doesn't it really matter that much? heh. Personally my Warrior goes for the stats. hehe. But I also like the look.. Female Gladiator armor is quite nice, as compared to the man-bra's male warrior's get to wear
